Summary

In his 2021 book, Kerry Patterson defines “crucial conversations” as “a discussion between two or more people where the stakes are high, opinions vary and emotions run strong.” This definition aptly describes the EHS profession when it comes to the topic of environmental, social and governance.

What are some of these conversations for the EHS professional?

  • Have the EHS and ESG communities been set up to compete against one another – or serve broader, similar, and catalyzing goals and objectives?
  • Is there a common framework through ESG to better promote EHS goals and objectives, and vice versa?
  • And what if better integrated EHS metrics within an ESG framework promoted the lifesaving goals, resources and priorities we can all be invested in?

Join us for this fun but crucial conversation, in which we’ll explore perspectives, definitions, common frameworks and intersections where today’s safety professional is learning to influence and lead in today’s world of work.

Scott DeBow, CSP, ARM | Director - Health & Safety | Avetta

Scott DeBow serves as Director of Health/Safety & Environmental for Avetta – the leading provider of supply chain risk management software. He’s a highly collaborative, strategic thinker and operator with 19 years of progressive leadership in the realm of risk/occupational safety.   With an “inside-out” perspective as a safety professional in nontraditional employment settings, he sees tremendous opportunity for systems improvements that can work together to reliably create and maintain safer work environments. Working to align people, teams, and industry resources for safety within the joint-employer community, he devotes much of his time to developing safety leadership across organizations with a targeted emphasis on systems improvements to address the most critical type of risk far too easily overlooked: serious injury/fatality, or SIF.
