The American Society of Safety Engineers has recognized a need for respirators, face/dust masks and several other types of supplies for the New York relief efforts and are coordinating the purchasing and delivery of these items within the next day or two to New York City.

This is in addition to the $10,000 donation ASSE made to the Red Cross for the relief effort.

ASSE said it had 50 members working in the World Trade Center and several in the Pentagon. In light of this, the ASSE Foundation has set up a special fund.

"As a tribute to the ASSE members whose lives were lost during this week''s tragedy, the ASSE Foundation will establish a memorial scholarship fund," said ASSE Foundation Manager Mary Goranson. "This scholarship will honor those who dedicated their lives to occupational health and safety."

The ASSE Foundation will accept donations from members, chapters, regions, corporations or any individual who would like to honor the memory of these fallen members.

To donate to this fund, earmark the donation "America Responds Fund" and send your donation to: ASSE, Attn: Foundation, 1800 E. Oakton, Des Plaines, IL 60018.
