Gualardo Takes The Helm As New ASSE President

Samuel J. Gualardo, CSP, will begin his term for 2000-2001 as\r\npresident of the 33,000-member American Society of Safety Engineers\r\n(ASSE) July 1.

Samuel J. Gualardo, CSP, will begin his term for 2000-2001 as president of the 33,000-member American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) July 1.

A former president of the Central ASSE Pennsylvania Chapter and currently a professor of occupational safety and health at Indiana University in Pennsylvania, Gualardo is also a member of eight ASSE divisions and served as ASSE''s senior vice president.

He has served the society in numerous capacities including vice president of finance, finance committee staff and compensation subcommittee chair, long-range planning committee, executive director transition task force and a four-year term on the board as vice president of Region XII.

"I look forward to continuing the great strides ASSE has made in recent years in furthering the occupational safety and health field," said Gualardo. "Especially as we continue to promote the ever-increasing importance of safety in this fast paced international marketplace. Our membership is dedicated to advancing the profession and I am honored to continue to work towards our mission of protecting people, property and the environment and as we continue managing our profession."

Gualardo accepted the presidential gavel from 1999 to 2000 ASSE President Frank H. Perry, CSP. Perry served for eight years on the ASSE Board of Directors as president, president-elect, senior vice president and Region III vice president.

Gualardo is also president of National Safety Consultants and Engineers Inc., a firm that specializes in workplace safety and health litigation, support and consulting, and serves on several boards including the New York Public Utility Association.

Current and past professional affiliations include Safety Executives of New York, NSC, AIHA, NFPA, Edison Electric Institute, the New York State Head Injury Association and the Burn Prevention Foundation.
