At this year's Fall Meeting, ISEA presented Dr. Richard Fulwiler with the 1999 Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding contributions to the safety field over the last 32 years.
Since he retired as global director of health and safety for Procter & Gamble with 28 years of service, Fulwiler has dedicated his expertise to carrying safety messages to an even broader audience. At P&G, Fulwiler's responsibilities included occupational medicine, industrial hygiene, safety, OSHA matters, workers' compensation, and health-care quality and cost management worldwide. Under his stewardship the company achieved broad recognition for health and safety excellence and for a comprehensive behavior-based safety management system.
Currently, he is president of Technology Leadership Associates, a Cincinnati-based consultancy specializing in increasing individual effectiveness and improving organizational capacity in the safety area.
Aside from running the consultancy, Fulwiler is a professor of environmental health at the University of Cincinnati's College of Medicine and is director of a leadership course at Harvard School of Public Health.
With this award, ISEA recognizes Fulwilers's distinguished career in raising awareness of the importance of using safety equipment to protect the workers whose lives and well-being depend on it.
