New Online Training for First Responders

Feb. 5, 2008
The U.S. Fire Administration’s National Fire Academy (NFA) recently launched NFAOnline, a new, Web-based online training system that provides free education programs for fire and emergency services personnel.

While online classes will not replace traditional, classroom-based instruction taught at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, Md., the system makes training available to responders who have difficulty participating in residential courses.

“Now is the time for us to embrace the future and improve our education through distance learning,” said NFA Superintendent Denis Onieal. “NFAOnline provides another option to help further the professionalism of the nation’s fire and emergency services and strengthen their ability to combat all hazard emergencies.”

NFAOnline features a user-friendly, one-stop Web site where first responders and the general public can complete training programs at their own pace. The program provides state-of-the art training that includes technical support and the capacity to immediately print certificates and transcripts.

Several courses are currently available, including Emergency Medical Services, Fire Service Supervision, Emergency Response to Terrorism, ICS 100 and ICS 200 and Community Safety Educators. Additional courses are in development.
