10 Tips for Staying Safe This Memorial Day

May 26, 2023
Ways to enjoy the holiday—safely.

Monday is Memorial Day, a day to honor the brave men and women who died while serving the U.S. military.

Memorial Day was declared a federal holiday in 1971, when it was also designated to be observed the last Monday in May. Since then, many businesses have also begun to recognize Memorial Day as a company holiday.

There continue to be services, remembrance and parades during Memorial Day weekend to honor those fallen soldiers. But Memorial Day is also recognized as the unofficial start of summer, and there will be plenty of other activities for you to choose from.

Perhaps you’re headed to a family cookout, the beach or the store to snag a deal. Perhaps you’re going to tackle a home improvement project or head out of town. Perhaps you’re planning to catch the Indy 500 or a baseball game.

However you plan to spend your holiday weekend, we here at EHS Today want to make sure you do so safely. That’s why we’ve compiled 10 tips to keep you safe.

For those who have lost someone, we honor their sacrifice and mourn their absence at the dinner table. And for those of you who have served or are serving in our armed forces, we thank you for your efforts to protect our democracy.

We will be observing a moment of silence at 3 p.m. local time for the National Moment of Remembrance Act and thinking about those who have made the ultimate sacrifice all weekend long.

We hope that, regardless of your situation or plans, you are able to have some fun and enjoy the wonderful freedoms that our country provides us. Most of all, we hope you can do so safely and that when you wake up to go work Tuesday, you feel well-rested and exhausted, in the best possible way.
