Janesville Acoustics, a Southfield, Mich.-based manufacturer of acoustical fiber insulation and molded fiber and die-cut products, said its Old Fort, N.C., plant has surpassed more than 1 million work hours without a lost-time injury.

The milestone is a new record among the company’s seven manufacturing facilities.

It’s been more than two years since the Old Fort plant, which employs 220 people, had its more recent lost-time injury. Plant Manager Roy Heeralall attributes the milestone to a cultural emphasis on safety.

“A key part of accomplishing this milestone is the ‘buddy system’ that we utilize, which pairs seasoned employees with newer ones and requires these teams to continuously watch out for one another,” Heeralall said. “Our employees are excited about this accomplishment and have already set their sights on reaching 2 million hours.”

Janesville Acoustics is a Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier to the automotive and transportation industry worldwide. The company opened the Old Fort plant in 1988.

“Safety is the top priority at each of our facilities,” said David Cataldi, president of Janesville Acoustics. “While we have developed effective protocols and guidelines intended to minimize the risk of injury, our employees should be commended for their commitment to implementing them so effectively.”
