Rock icon Bono, “Today Show” weather personality Al Roker and the inimitable Charlie Sheen will deliver keynote addresses at the 2014 America’s Safest Companies Conference, as part of a star-studded lineup of speakers and entertainers.
Among other notable events on the schedule, Bob Dylan will play an acoustic set during a first-night networking reception, and Elton John will headline an all-star jam session following the crowning of the 2014 America’s Safest Companies.
The conference, which highlights the safety best practices of top U.S. companies, will take place at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
EHS Today has spared no expense on this year’s event, and that includes a jam-packed slate of educational sessions. Hot topics on the agenda include:

“Safety Culture Excellence in Your Meth Lab” – Bryan Cranston, star of “Breaking Bad,” will provide an overview of safety best practices in crystal meth production, including PPE selection.

“Encouraging Whistleblowing in your Organization” – NBA referee Danny Crawford discusses the fundamentals of whistleblowing, including whistle selection, lip formation and breathing exercises.

“Legal Trends in Occupational Safety” – Did you know that a federal judge recently sentenced a safety manager to serve as the butler of an injured worker? In another case, an EHS director was ordered to amputate his own arm after a worker lost his arm in a machining accident. Disbarred attorney F. Lee Bailey takes a look at some alarming new legal precedents in the prosecution of negligent employers – and why you should be concerned.
In a departure from traditional EHS conferences, Charlie Sheen will play devil’s advocate in his keynote address, which is titled “The Sun Will Explode in 7 Billion Years (and Nine Other Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Care About Workplace Safety).”
“You’ve been busting your hump for far too long – holding your little meetings, making up your little slogans, hanging up your little banners – and for what? To save a few human lives?” Sheen said, in an exclusive interview with EHS Today previewing his keynote address.
Sheen told EHS Today that he will present a strong case against workplace safety. Among the points he plans to make: “Safety is for wimps.”
“Losing an appendage in an industrial accident is more than a rite of passage – it’s proof of a worker’s manhood,” Sheen explained. “It screams street cred. Think of the cool stories an armless worker will be able to tell his grandchildren.”
