Worker Opens Fire, Kills Three Employees at Company Safety Meeting

Oct. 6, 2011
Shareef Allman, a truck driver at Lehigh Southwest Cement Permanente Plant in Cupertino, Calif., allegedly opened fire during a company safety meeting, killing three people and injuring seven others. Allman then fled the scene, allegedly carjacking a woman to escape.

The shooting victims were identified as Mark Munoz, 59; Manuel Pinon, 48; and John Vallejos, 51.

Media reports indicated that Allman entered the safety meeting between 4 and 4:30 a.m., briefly stepped out and returned with two guns. He then opened fire on the employees and managed to flee, triggering a manhunt that involved various law enforcement agencies.

Latest reports indicate that authorities located, shot and killed Allman the morning of Oct. 6.

Dan Harrington, president and CEO of Lehigh Hanson Inc., said in a statement that he and others at the company are “shocked and saddened” by the workplace shooting.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families,” he said. “I have committed the company's resources to assist our affected employees during this difficult time.”

Lehigh Hanson Inc. is based in Irving, Texas, and is a part of the HeidelbergCement Group.
