The Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md., was the site of the 2014 National VPPPA Conference, which wrapped up Thursday.

During the event, the Voluntary Protection Program Participants’ Association celebrated the 30th anniversary of the organization and the conference.

Highlights included:

  • A reception honoring six facilities that have been certified as OSHA VPP sites for 30 or more years.
  • A presentation by General Electric Vice President of Corporate Environmental Programs Ann Klee providing an overview of GE's EHS efforts.
  • Keynote addresses by Army hero Keni Thomas and Jeff "Odie" Espenship.
  • Presentations honoring the winners of the VPP Outreach Award, the VPP Innovation Award, the SGE of the Year Award and other awards.

“This is the only national conference that’s not just for safety and health professionals," VPPPA Chairman Mike Maddox said. "With employee involvement being the cornerstone of VPP, we have large participation from hourly employees, first-line supervisors, facility managers, safety and health professionals and CEOs at this conference.”
