As the year winds down, it seems that environmental, social and governance (ESG) is really starting to heat up.
There was the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s proposed rule to disclose climate risks, including direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2) greenhouse gas emissions.
And the Biden administration is continuing with its bevy of other environmental efforts. In August, President Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law, arguably the most important climate legislation to date and the largest climate investment in the federal government’s history.
At the COP27 in November, Biden announced new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency rules for methane emissions reductions for oil and gas companies.
A few weeks ago, the U.S. Department of Energy announced it conducted the first controlled nuclear fusion experiment, a milestone that could usher in a new era for energy.
There will certainly be more environmental, sustainability and ESG news to come. But for now, let’s look at the year that was through some notable articles, as chosen by the editors of EHS Today.
