NIOSH Examining its Firefighter Fatality Prevention Efforts
Last month, NIOSH began sending out a survey to 3,000 fire chiefs across the country on the use of NIOSH recommendations and information products. The agency is seeking input from fire chiefs and frontline firefighters to see how and where NIOSH fatality reports are being used and to identify ways to increase the usefulness and impact of the firefighter program in reducing firefighter fatalities.
NIOSH also will be holding a stakeholders' meeting March 22 in Washington to seek input to ensure that the FFFIPP is meeting the needs of stakeholders, and to identify ways NIOSH might improve the program to increase its impact on the safety and health of firefighters across the United States.
A similar meeting was held in January 1998 to provide valuable stakeholder input as NIOSH was planning and establishing the FFFIPP.
