Severe Injury Reporting, New HazCom Rule and Workplace Well-being: What You're Reading This Month
September is drawing to a close, and it’s finally starting to feel like fall. Autumn isn’t my favorite season, but I have grown to welcome nature’s gentle transition between the highs of summer to the depths of winter.
I’m looking forward to visiting the farm stands in my hometown and stocking up on butternut squash and pie pumpkins, then spending hours in the kitchen prepping cozy and comforting meals. I can’t wait to get lost in a corn maze and zip down a metal slide in a gunny sack at Mapleside Farms, which has become an annual tradition of sorts. All these things help to soften the blow that comes with sunsets before 7:30 p.m. In other words, even when there’s something I might not like, finding something to enjoy and anticipate bolsters my mood.
Perhaps you’ve been procrastinating some paperwork or learning about OSHA’s new HazCom final rule. What if you reframed the task so that it’s merely an item on your checklist, then reward yourself with a treat afterward. If it’s something particularly dreadful, I find the promise of a donut to be a great motivator. If you’re trying to be healthy, I find 10 minutes of watching cute cat videos also produces a similar dopamine reaction.
Whatever you’re struggling with, thank yourself each night for doing your best and give yourself the gift of a good night’s rest. Things usually seem more manageable in the morning, especially once you have your first cup of coffee and a hot breakfast.
Until next time, stay safe and be well!
