Seeing Spots: The Dangers of Sun Exposure [Infographic]

July 6, 2015
This infographic highlights the high risk of skin cancer for outdoor workers, particularly those in construction, as they can be exposed to 10 times the recommended daily UV exposure levels and are six times more likely to develop skin cancer than the general population.

Did you know that even on a cloudy day, 30-50 percent of the sun’s rays reach the skin?

This new infographic from Deb Group explores the sun’s three types of radiation: UVA, UVB and UVC. It also emphasizes the sun’s affect on the skin in the United States and Canada and worldwide. Globally, one in three cancer diagnoses is a skin cancer, and in the United States and Canada alone, skin cancer costs – including treatment and productivity losses – can reach more than $11 billion annually.

The infographic highlights the high risk of skin cancer for outdoor workers, particularly those in construction, as they can be exposed to 10 times the recommended daily UV exposure levels and are six times more likely to develop skin cancer than the general population. In addition to skin cancer statistics, the infographic offers tips on how to protect workers from the sun.

Employers who have outdoor workers are encouraged to download Deb’s Manager's Guide and Poster for Skin Care At Work: Sun Protection for Workers. The manager’s guide provides guidelines on how to minimize your outdoor workers’ risk of sun exposure, including how and when to apply sunscreen, when to take breaks and how to stay properly hydrated. It also provides an aid to early detection of skin cancer and when to seek medical advice.
