Bureau Veritas Chosen as Compliance Manager During Construction Phase of Solar Energy Project

Feb. 14, 2011
Bureau Veritas has been selected by the Department of Interior – Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to be the compliance manager for the Genesis Solar Energy Project in Riverside County, California. The Genesis Solar Energy facility will be a 250-megawatt solar energy plant built, owned and operated by NextEra, generating enough electricity to power nearly 88,000 homes.

As compliance manager, Bureau Veritas will ensure that the project adheres to construction and environmental requirements during the construction phase of the Genesis Solar Energy Project. In addition, Bureau Veritas’ role as compliance manager for the BLM will involve working with other agencies in the environmental compliance monitoring.

“We are excited to have this opportunity to work with the Bureau of Land Management on this project, as a step toward meeting the demand for green, renewable energy solutions,” said Kevin Wedman, vice president of Power and Utilities, Bureau Veritas. “We are especially pleased to be able to be a part of a project that will bring nearly 1,100 green jobs to the area during the peak construction period.”

The Genesis Solar Energy Plant will be one of the largest solar energy plants in the nation. The electricity will be generated solely by solar thermal technology, without the need for supplemental fuel for electricity production. The result of this clean energy production technology will be an annual reduction of 330,000 tons of carbon dioxide.

“As a leading provider of quality assurance services in the energy market, we are thrilled to be helping the Bureau of Land Management meet its quality goals for this important project,” said Pedro Guimaraes, CEO of Bureau Veritas North America Inc.
