Members of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) recently elected a new slate of officers for the 2002-2003 year, effective July 1, 2002. Houston resident Mark D. Hansen, P.E., CSP, currently the president-elect of the organization, will succeed Houston''s M.E. "Eddie" Greer, CSP, as president. Another Texan, James "Skipper" Kendrick, CSP, of Fort Worth, currently senior vice president, will serve as president-elect.
Hansen will take the reins of the organization at the June ASSE Professional Development Conference in Nashville. He is the director of risk control for oil and gas for the St. Paul Co.. He received his BS and MS degrees from Texas A & M University and is a professional engineer, a certified safety professional (CSP) and a certified professional engineer (CPE). He has been an ASSE member for 17 years and is the recipient of several ASSE awards including the Edgar Monsanto-Queeny Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) Award and the annual Charles V. Culbertson Volunteer Award.
Kendrick is manager of industrial safety and hygiene for Bell Helicopter, a Textron company. He has been an active member of ASSE for 22 years serving in many capacities and is a recipient of the ASSE national SPY award. He will serve as president-elect in the coming year.
New ASSE board members include Gene Barfield, CSP, senior vice president; Richard C. Nugent, CSP, as vice president-finance; Donald S. Jones, P.E., CSP, as vice president-practices & standards; Sam Lybarger, CSP, Ed.S., Region II (AZ, NM, CO, WY, and UT) vice president; John S. Fleming, Jr., Region IV (LA, FL, PR, GA, MS, AL) vice president; Frederick A. Miller, CSP, Region VI (VA, MD, SC, D.C., DE, NC) vice president; and James E. Fix, CSP, Region VIII (MA, CN, MN, NY, NJ, PA) vice president.
