AIHA Offers Help on Home Office Safety

May 5, 2000
When it comes to worker safety, there's no place like home.

Home-based office workers, whether telecommuting or self-employed, face hazards in their daily routines. To meet the needs of this growing segment of the work force, the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) has released a consumer brochure covering home office safety.

"There''s No Place Like Home ... for Workplace Safety" covers a range of topics from indoor air quality to choosing the correct computer chair for telecommuters or self-employed. Highlights of the brochure include tips on setting up a home office, using good work habits to avoid injury, and indoor air quality, lead and fire dangers.

"With more and more Americans starting their own businesses or cutting their commutes, we wanted to offer some sound, commonsense advice about home office safety," said Jim Thornton, AIHA president. "We believe this brochure will help home office workers stay as healthy and safe as possible."

The brochure is available at no charge from AIHA by calling (703) 849-8888 or by logging onto the AIHA Web site at www.aiha.org. The brochure will be available in a Spanish-language edition in June.
