OSHA To Present Draft Final Rule on Steel Erection

Dec. 7, 1999
OSHA will present a draft final steel erection standard to SENRAC at a meeting next week.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will present a draft final steel erection standard to the Steel Erection Negotiated Rulemaking Advisory Committee (SENRAC) on Dec. 16 in Washington, D.C.

The agency published its proposed steel erection rule on Aug. 13, 1998, after receiving input from SENRAC.

SENRAC, composed of representatives form labor, industry, public interests and government agencies, met 11 times to identify the major hazards and develop a recommended text that became the basis for OSHA's proposed rule for steel erection.

OSHA analyzed the hundreds of public comments it received and testimony from public hearings held last December before developing the draft of the final standard, which it will present to the committee next week.

The meeting on Dec. 16 is open to the public. It begins at 8 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Washington Hotel, 400 New Jersey Ave., N.W., Washington D.C.

During the meeting, members of the public may informally request permission to address the committee.
