John Jay ("Jack") Morgan, who began his career with

Industrial Scientific Corp. (then a division of National Mine Service) in 1978 as a production supervisor, passed away Jan. 18. He worked as an inside sales representative and customer service manager and, since October 1990, served as advertising manager. Jack was also responsible for coordination of company trade shows. He served on the board of directors for the Safety Industry Exhibitor''s Council for several years and is remembered by many in the industry for his diligence, patience and smile.

Lumidor Safety Products, Mirimar, Fla., has a new attitude, and it''s "a breath of fresh air," says Rick Pallen, the new vice president of sales and marketing. Pallen and Larry F. Young, COO and president, have upgraded customer service at Lumidor with a focus on integrated teams to help meet the gas detection and air quality needs of customers.

AmerisourceBergen Corp. will standardize its internal OSHA compliance and recordkeeping using OSHALOG 300 software from Safety Software Inc., Charlottesville, Va.

"Going forward, our communication and management of best practices in workplace safety throughout the United States will be made even easier with this straightforward, yet complete program," said Rodney Bias, director, corporate security and regulatory affairs, AmerisourceBergen.

Abdullah S. Al-Sekhan has been named general manager, Industrial Security, for Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC), Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he will be in charge of the safety, security and emergency response groups. Al-Sekhan was formerly with Saudi Petrochemical Co. (Sadaf), an affiliate of SABIC. Under his guidance, Sadaf won Occupational Hazards'' Champions of Safety award in 1998.

James M. Shannon has been elected president and CEO of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), effective June 1. Shannon will succeed George D. Miller, who will retire after 10 years. Shannon has served as NFPA senior vice president and general counsel since 1991.
