The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) recently named Robert Semonisck, Ph.D., recipient of the ASSE Foundation Distinguished Service Award.
The award, based on outstanding achievement, commitment and support to the foundation, which seeks to advance safety and health development, research and education in the public interest, will be presented at the ASSE Professional Development Conference in Orlando.
Semonisck will be honored for six years of support to the ASSE Foundation.
He is chair of the Department of Occupational Safety & Health at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Okla.
A professional member of the Tulsa chapter of ASSE, he served as Education/Scholarship chair from 1992 to 1998, playing an instrumental role in developing and implementing the foundation''s scholarship programs.
With the objective of assisting student in their ascent from college to career, Semonisck prepares students at Southeastern Oklahoma State University for internships, scholarships and job placement after graduation.
Aside from his work with the university, he developed safety policies and procedures for United Telecom and served on the national Commission on Safety Education.
An active member of ASSE since 1975, Semonisck has served as vice president of communications and vice president of finance, as well as member and chair of numerous committees nationwide.
