Occupational safety and health professionals will address major changes in today''s global workplace at the upcoming American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Annual Conference and Exposition.
The event will take place at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Fla., June 25-28.
Dr. Linda Rosenstock, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) director, will set the tone of the conference with a talk on the occupational safety and health challenges of the changing workplace and its impact on safety.
She will address such topics as:
- an increasingly diversified workforce,
- increasing numbers of older workers,
- the shift from a goods producing economy to a largely service economy,
- the growth in low-wage, contingent and contract jobs, and
- the erosion of employer-based health insurance.
Other ASSE sessions and seminars include the following highlights:
- General Charles C. Krulak (ret.), senior vice president at MBNA Bank will discuss the safety professional and the importance of "character, June 26 at 9 a.m.
- Former Astronaut and Kennedy Space Center Director Roy Bridges will discuss safety in space, June 27 at 8 a.m.
- Preventing and Managing Workplace Violence: an International Perspective.
- OSHA update provided by OSHA''s Marthe Kent, directorate of safety standards.
- Technology in the future.
