ASSE To Examine World-Class Safety in New Orleans

Don Jones, P.E., CSP, the regulatory expertise leader at the Dow Chemical Co. in Plaquemine, La., and Greg Honaker, area director of OSHA's Baton Rouge office are among several occupational safety experts slated to speak at the American Society of Safety Engineer's (ASSE) "Achieving World-Class Safety" Symposium on March 25-26 in New Orleans.

The successful methods and techniques used to achieve a world-class safety program will be the focus of the ASSE symposium, which will be held at the Hyatt Regency --Superdome. In addition to Jones and Honaker, representatives from Bechtel Corp., AON Risk Services, Sara Lee Corp., the University of Georgia, DuPont and the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities will discuss moving beyond compliance to safety excellence.

Some of the topics to be covered at the symposium include measures small businesses can take to achieve a world-class safety program, evaluating risk and associated costs, how to strengthen the return on investment programs, and how to implement safety measurement systems.

In addition to Jones and Honaker, J.M. Stewart, Ph.D., safety management consultant and author of "Managing for World-Class Safety," will discuss his technique of measuring corporate commitment to safety within an organization, and Richard Pollock, CSP, and James Howe, CSP, will discuss the changing workplace for safety professionals and how European standards are affecting all industries. Safety professionals from corporations such as Sara Lee, Niagara Mohawk and IBM will identify key factors leading to world-class safety success in a featured panel discussion.
