Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao will speak to an estimated 2,000 safety, health and environmental leaders from some of the nation''s top-ranking companies in workplace safety and health protection at the 17th Annual National Voluntary Protection Programs Participants'' Association (VPPPA) Conference on Aug. 27, at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside in New Orleans, La.
This will be the first time that Chao has attended a conference devoted to occupational safety and health issues since she assumed office in January. Joining the secretary at the opening general session will be Davis Layne, acting OSHA administrator, as well as industry keynote speaker John L. (Jack) Hurst III, executive vice president-Chlorovinyls Group for Occidental Chemical Corp.
Lee Anne Jillings, executive director of the VPPPA said, "We are very happy that the secretary will be able to participate in this year''s conference. We look forward to hearing her views on the Labor Department''s future direction with regard to injury and illness prevention and cooperative programs."
"Jazz Up Safety with VPPPA" is the theme of this years conference, Aug. 27-30. More than 80 workshops with topics ranging from ergonomics to OSHA compliance will be offered to attendees of the conference. All individuals interested in workplace safety and health best practices are encouraged to attend.
