Earth Day Network kicked off its Earth Day 2000 campaign, 'New Energy for a New Era,' with a round of events and activities nationwide during this Earth Week.
A yearlong whirlwind of education and activism will focus on how energy is produced and used, and its impacts on human health, air water, land use and wildlife.
As the world celebrates Earth Day, corporate environmental, health and safety professionals from Global Environmental Management Initiative (GEMI) continue their efforts to protect the environment while promoting industry.
"One of the greatest challenges corporate EH&S professionals must meet is the need to educate both large and small businesses and the public on the important role that environmental professionals play on a daily basis in supporting the environment," said Jim Thomas, chair of GEMI's Communications and Marketing Committee.
Thomas said GEMI is developing the next generation of environmental tools that will assist corporate environmental professionals in addressing issues such as global climate change, relationships with suppliers and contractors and sustainability.
