To better serve environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) professionals, the environment, and the global community, the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and the Institute of Professional Environmental Practice (IPEP) have agreed to promote projects, programs and policy-making in the field of environmental management.
This new relationship is expected to mutually expand their respective traditional membership bases, which include certified industrial hygienists (CIHs) within the AIHA community and qualified environmental professionals (QEPs) within the IPEP community.
"An agreement such as this one has implications on an international scale as we address increasingly difficult problems in (1) managing the environments of our workplaces, communities, regions, and globe, and (2) conserving/restoring the finite natural resources (air, water and land) that sustain life on the planet," said IPEP President John C. Petura, PE, QEP.
Through the agreement, AIHA publicly endorses IPEP''s Qualified Environmental Professionals (QEP) and the Environmental Professional Intern (EPI) certifications for EH&S professionals.
The QEP is the only fully accredited multimedia, multidisciplinary, international credential for environmental professionals.
"Certification assures employer organizations and clients alike that a professional is well-trained, thoroughly experienced and is keeping on top and ahead of environmental issues and trends, said AIHA Vice President Gayla J. McCluskey, CIH, CSP, QEP. "In today''s changing world, we must utilize professionals who have demonstrated their expertise to stride forward in addressing challenges through the advancement and discovery of new opportunities for sustainable global development."
IPEP is the independent, not-for-profit certifying organization for the QEP and EPI certifications.
Its organizational objectives are to improve the practice and educational standards of environmental professionals and to administer the QEP and EPI application, examination and certification process.
