Homeland Security Chairman Cox Calls Negroponte the "Perfect Choice"

Feb. 18, 2005
House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee Chairman Christopher Cox (R-Calif.) is calling Ambassador John Negroponte the "perfect choice" to serve as the new director of National Intelligence.

"Ambassador Negroponte's toughness and experience make him the perfect choice to coordinate intelligence across the government. He faces enormous challenges, including the prevention of both terrorism and future war between nations," said Cox.

Cox said he has worked with Negroponte for decades, in several capacities, through several administrations. "His appointment is good news for homeland security, good news for America, and good news for the free world," Cox added.

Negroponte has served as the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, U.S. permanent representative to the United Nations, ambassador to Honduras, assistant secretary of state for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, deputy assistant to the president for National Security Affairs, ambassador to Mexico and ambassador to the Philippines.
