According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, health care costs in private industry account for $1 of every hour an employee works. For many companies, it's hard to know where they stand in relationship to these costs with others their size.
The American Association of Occupation Health Nurses Inc. (AAOHN) has launched a Web site, the Bottom Line Business Health Check-Up, at www.bizhealthcheck.com.
It features an on-line assessment tool that lets companies assess their health care costs while offering solutions for reducing health care expenses.
The Bottom Line Businesses Health Check-Up Assessment Tool gives human resource, occupational health, risk management, finance and other corporate decision makers the opportunity to assess their company's workers' compensation claims, employee health care costs, and lost workday cases by comparing them to national averages.
The tool determines whether the company's health care costs are below, near or above the national average for the selected health care expenditure.
It then provides the user with a recommendation for reducing their company's health care spending while improving employee health and morale.
"With health care costs increasing nearly 2.5 times faster than any other benefit cost, companies are continuously looking for innovative ways to reduce bottom line spending," said AAOHN President Deborah V. DiBenedetto. "Since occupational health nurses can play a key role in a company's financial and employee health, we felt it was important for us to bring this free on-line tool as a service to businesses."
AAOHN, a 12,000-member professional association, is dedicated to advancing and maximizing the health, safety and productivity of domestic and global workforces by providing education, research, public policy and practice resources for occupational and environmental health nurses.
