Oct. 4, 2010
EHS Today celebrates 12 companies named America's Safest Companies in 2010.

Cleveland – October 4, 2010 – EHS Today, a magazine dedicated to the management of risk in the workplace and environment, is proud to announce that 12 companies have been named to the 2010 list of America's Safest Companies. These companies provide a safe working environment for tens of thousands of employees, protect the environment and act as advocates for worker health and safety.

America's Safest Companies, founded in 2002, is a corporate award honoring the safest companies in the United States. This year’s list of honorees includes Adolfson & Peterson Construction, Armstrong World Industries Inc., Cummins Inc., Dow Corning Corp., Flowserve Corp., Hannay Reels Inc., Jordan Construction, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, Lydig Construction, Milliken & Co., Safway Services LLC and STP Nuclear Operating Co. Representatives from the 2010 America’s Safest Companies will receive their awards at a reception tonight at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego.

“We like to think that all 10,523 of our employees are safety professionals – as we invest both the skills and responsibilities in each of them to ensure the proper application of safety principles for every operation, every day,” said Mike Snyder, director of corporate safety, industrial hygiene and loss prevention at Dow Corning Corp.

To be considered one of America's Safest Companies, organizations must demonstrate support from management and employee involvement; innovative solutions to safety challenges; comprehensive training programs; evidence that prevention of incidents is the cornerstone of the safety process; and communication about the value of safety.

“We received a diverse group of applications this year,” said Sandy Smith, executive editor of EHS Today. “The winning companies empower their employees to play an active role in corporate safety culture; offer safety education through rigorous training programs or corporate universities; consider OSHA compliance as a starting point; and invest in safety at every level.”

EHS Today Senior Editor Laura Walter added, “We applaud these companies for creating safe, healthy workplaces and are proud to include them in this year’s award.”

EHS Today commends the sponsors of America's Safest Companies – Gold Sponsor MCR Safety and Silver Sponsor PureSafety – for their commitment to promoting safe work environments and for their support in recognizing the country's safest workplaces.
