NSC 2016: USG Corp. Recognized for Excellence in EHS Performance

Oct. 17, 2016
USG Corp. has received the prestigious 2016 Robert W. Campbell Award from the National Safety Council for its outstanding environmental, health and safety programs.

USG Corp., a leading manufacturer of innovative building products and solutions, was honored with the 2016 Robert W. Campbell Award from the National Safety Council (NSC) for its outstanding environmental, health and safety programs. USG Corp. was recognized by EHS Today in 2015 as one of America's Safest Companies.

“Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our people and receiving the prestigious Robert W. Campbell Award is a reflection of our continuous efforts to improve environmental, health and safety programs,” said Jim Metcalf, chairman, president, and CEO of USG Corp. “Our employees have embedded safety into everything that they do, and their dedication to advancing our environmental, health, safety and sustainability initiatives is a key factor in our success. We engage employees at all levels of the organization to create a safety-first culture, and as a result our lost-time injury rate is 17 times better than industry average.”

The Campbell award is presented annually by the NSC to recognize organizations that achieve excellence through the integration of environmental, health and safety (EHS) management into business operations. In the history of the award, USG is just the second company to receive the Campbell Award as a first-time applicant.

The Campbell Award, which celebrates best practices in EHS, recognizes USG’s commitment to maintaining safe workplaces, and to improving the environment and the communities in which employees and customers live and work.

“USG truly has a culture of safety excellence,” said Deborah A.P. Hersman, president and CEO of the National Safety Council. “The company-wide dedication to safety is clear, and we are excited to honor their commitment to saving lives and preventing injuries.”
