President Bush Names Leaders for OSHA, MSHA

President George Bush announced today (Sept. 15) his intention to nominate Edwin Foulke Jr., of South Carolina, to be assistant secretary of labor for OSHA.

Foulke is a partner with the law firm of Jackson Lewis LLP in Greenville, S.C., according to information posted on the White House Web site. The South Carolina labor lawyer previously served as chairman of the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. Foulke also served as an adjunct professor at St. Mary's Dominican College in New Orleans. He received his bachelor's degree from North Carolina State University and his J.D. from Loyola University. He later received his master's degree from Georgetown University.

President Bush also announced he plans to nominate Richard Stickler, of West Virginia, to be assistant secretary of labor for Mine Safety and Health. Stickler served as director of Pennsylvania's Bureau of Deep Mine Safety. Earlier in his career, he worked for Beth Energy Mines Inc. for 30 years. During that time, Stickler held a number of positions including manager, superintendent and shift foreman. He received his bachelor's degree from Fairmont State College.
