ASSE Foundation Announces Safety Research Fellowship Program

Feb. 1, 2002
Interested in conducting research on occupational safety? Then the American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation (ASSEF) might have some money for you.

Recognizing the importance of safety research in helping reduce workplace injury and illnesses, the American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation (ASSEF) has made two safety research fellowships available for 2002. The research will be conducted this summer at the Liberty Mutual Research Center for Safety and Health located in Hopkinton, Mass.

The fellows will spend four to six weeks this summer at the Liberty Mutual Research Center (LMRC) and will receive a stipend to cover research expenses. In addition, they will write an article for the ASSEF Advocate or ASSE's Professional Safety publication displaying their results.

The ASSEF Safety Research Fellowship Program is devoted to encouraging research activity in safety, expanding upon current thoughts on safety research and providing a forum for safety professionals, industry needs and quality research programs.

Applicants must be United States citizens and possess a Ph.D. degree or be working towards a master's or Ph.D. degree. ASSE members and applicants enrolled or holding appointments in an ABET accredited safety program will be given special consideration. Applications and guidelines for the fellowships are available online at www.asse.org/foundat.htm. The deadline for submitting applications is April 15, 2002.

Founded in 1911 and celebrating its 90th anniversary, ASSE has over 30,000 members who manage, supervise and consult on safety, health and environmental issues in industry, insurance, government and education.
