The event’s theme is a nod to the American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) milestone 100-year anniversary – the organization was formed following the tragic 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire that killed 146 workers. ASSE sponsors NAOSH Week along with the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers (CSSE).

This year, OSHA, Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) officials helped kick off NAOSH Week with special Washington, D.C., events on May 2. FMCSA and DOT officials will stress the importance of increasing roadway safety. Officials and organizations also will celebrate the winners of ASSE’s “Safety on the Job” poster contest for kids aged 5-14.
