The ceremony was held in Memorial Park in Colorado Springs, Colo.
“This year, our ceremony falls on the same day that 347 of our own perished. Like those who made the ultimate sacrifice before them, we will honor 136 fire fighters and commemorate their lives and service to their communities by adding their names to our Wall of Honor,” said International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) General President Harold Schaitberger.
The honored firefighters died in the line of duty from June 1, 2009, through June 1, 2010. Some firefighters who died prior to June 1, 2009, also were honored. A complete list of those whose names will be added to the Wall of Honor can be found online.
The IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial was created in 1976. The Wall of Honor bears the names of 2,274 firefighters who died prior to June 2009. With this year’s addition of 136 firefighters, the wall will bear the names of 2,410 fallen firefighters.
