Personal protection equipment (PPE) is part of the hierarchy of controls used to protect employees from workplace hazards.

This infographic from Compliance and Safety offers simple but effective advice about the use of PPE. For example: When should I use PPE?

  • When no other control method is possible.
  • For emergencies and unusual maintenance activities.
  • While other controls are being installed.
  • In addition to other control methods when the other methods don’t provide enough protection.

The infographic also offers guidelines for selection and use, as well as tips for selecting PPE and the elements necessary for an effective PPE program.
